Fabian Dawson Deputy Editor-in-Chief, The Province

An acclaimed investigative journalist, Fabian Dawson is the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of The Province newspaper in Vancouver, which is part of the Canwest Global media group. Dawson also advises several publications in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, India and England. His investigative exposes and news stories have led to the production of four documentary films. He also helped develop a Canadian made-for-TV movie that was inspired by his reporting. In 2004, the National Newspaper Awards (NNA) committee named Dawson as Canada 's Unsung Hero of Journalism. In July 2006, the investigative team led by Dawson won the prestigious Daniel Pearl Award for 2005's outstanding story about South Asia, or South Asians in North America. Dawson, who has developed several mainstream-ethnic media partnerships, was named as one of the 100 South Asians who are making a difference in British Columbia. Dawson's work in ethnic-mainstream media partnerships also garnered him the Izzy Award for Quality and Excellence. He is a media commentator who is called upon frequently by TV, radio, associations, government bodies and media firms to speak about his work.
